About the Program

Many therapists love using metaphors with clients, but how does it all happen? This workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the cognitive-linguistic approach to metaphors (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980). Attendees will then learn about organic, somatic, and etymological techniques for discovering metaphors with the client, as well as imaginative improvisational tools for expanding metaphors. Attendees will be provided with examples, and have time to try out techniques with fellow professionals.

Matthew Lowe

Matthew was born and raised in Gaithersburg, MD, and recently returned to the state after a decade each in NYC and Boston. He became a therapist after leaving the fields of religious and health education, but very little has changed, since every job was just an excuse to play with metaphors. He lives in Pikesville with his Rabbi Spouse, and is ready when you are to talk about the intersection of concepts and life.
